Describes recent advances in river regime theory, including full discussion of the newly-developed analytical approach. This new approach employs a theoretical description of the dominant fluvial process rather than a purely empirical approach. Also gives an account of the increasing range of application of regime theory, from canals to sand bed streams and rivers, and, more recently, to gravel bed rivers (the latter application still being refined). Provides the latest laboratory data and field data, addresses both empirical and analytical approaches, and looks at channel form, meandering, and many additional factors in the growing science of river regime theory.
