The book has 550 entries categorized by such topics as people, places, events, and concepts. Shimoni is a former Israeli diplomat and an academician specializing in Arab affairs. He noticeably avoids making a clear statement on "Palestine" or "OAPEC" (Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries), which are subsumed under the Arab-Israeli conflict and oil, respectively.
